use ableton live to chop samples like an mpc
soundsandgear.com this is a video tutorial showing you how to use ableton live like an mpc to chop and play your samples so that they can cut each other off. Also shows how to setup you own custom drum racks in ableton so this chop and cut off setting is done automatically when you slice a new sample.

@chriscauldermusic thanks yo! I love this stuff lol, I don’t use the mpd32 but I know many people do.
@SoundsAndGear Yo man, I love your passion and excitement in your videos (Especially the sample CD reviews). You remind me exactly of myself when it comes to this stuff. Have you seen my MPD32 pad modification video to get more responsive pads? You might get a kick out of it if you own an MPD32 or hate Akai’s pad response in general.
I subscribed to you… I’m going to be sending you a few messages with questions about producing and other stuff soon… keep an eye out… thanks man!
-Chris
@chriscauldermusic thanks yo! It’s definitely a very quick workflow man.
You are the man. More people need to know about this. I was going to make a video just like this last summer. This is SO MUCH FASTER than chopping using an MPC. I wish all producers would realize this.
@bluelifemedia no problem yo, glad to help
You are the Dude. Thanx soooo much for this. I’m about to get to work now.
Peace Fam
version 7
Hey, which version of Ableton you use? Becauce where should be “dropping samples” in Clips > Defaults, there’s nothing here and i can’t make my preset.. ;/
no doubt fam
Thanks bro
cool!
@SoundsAndGear
Ok thanks :D it works now !
make sure you save it to the right location so that you can choose it later
@SoundsAndGear
Oh no no ;) I juste made them, now the only problem is that when I wanna chose Slicing Preset I cannot change anything there is just written “build in” as Slice Preset.
no problem man, I don’ t have anything written down on how to do it though, it’s in the manual I think
@SoundsAndGear
Damn… really? Sorry I’ve got some problems with english, no joke.
it’s in the video
@SoundsAndGear
Oh ok, and how I make them? :D
not sure what you mean they are missing, you have to make them.
Hey, I’ve got a little problem… Those 2 files, one from On Drum Rack, and one from Slicing are missing. There are no files, could you upload and send me them please? Just those 2
thanks…
well it depends on how he has his session setup, he could be using the pad to trigger clips or he could have already had his samples warped to the speed he wanted and put them in a drum rack
you’d have to ask him how he did it, because there’s tons of ways to do it in Live, many people do the same thing different ways
Hi !
First, thanks for the tips. Great tutorial!
I have somes question:
On this video you teach how to play one sample chopped.
Can I use this technique to play samples like in this video?
/watch?v=C84ZqFKAqp8
This guy drops one shot samples and loop samples in sync. (using Multiple scenes. Like an MPC).
The tempo change is controlled by the pitch slider on the vci-100.
Could you gve a light?
(and sorry about my English) :0)
no problem yo! glad to help
Thank you a lot man!
no doubt fam, thanks for watchin.
